The Iliana Yarn Crawl 2018

yarn

I participated in the annual Iliana Yarn Crawl. What is a yarn crawl? You might be asking. It’s a fun way to find out about other shops, different yarns and patterns, plus meet new knitters. One day, I followed the same group of knitters from store to store. We would laugh and share our finds with each other. But here’s a more precise definition: Participating shops have the same shop hours, give discounts and prizes, and sell special yarn at each store along with a special Yarn Crawl pattern. This year the yarn crawl lasted from July 23-22, 2018. I hope you enjoy the following information and will visit one or all of these shops.

Six southern Indiana independent yarn shops were involved this year:

·   RiverWools in Terre Haute, IN
·   TheYarn Studio in Casey, IL
·   Atkinson Farm Yarns in Vincennes, IN
·   SerendipityFibers in Huntingburg, IN
·   SheepskeinsYarn Store in Newburgh, IN
·   CityStitch in Boonville, IN

Here are the awards I would give each shop if I was in charge of awards:

·   Cheers: River Wools (It’s my local shop and where everybody knows my name)
·   Best Cupcakes: The Yarn Studio (Sweet Norma Jeans Bake Shoppe is attached to the shop. Oh my, such deliciousness!!)
·   Most Friendly: Atkinson Yarn Farm (Want a place to feel at home in? This is the shop. They have a lot of extras too. Local hand-dyed yarn and soaps just to name a few.)
·   Most Beautiful: Serendipity Fibers (I would love to live near this shop, just so I could go inside whenever I wanted. It’s in an old shop on the main downtown street, with lots of restaurants nearby.)
·   Best Selection: Sheepskeins Yarn Shop (This shop has such a large selection of yarn, you could lose hours dreaming and planning.)
·   Most Knowledgable : City Stitch: (The owner is a yarn dyer & spinner who hold classes regularly.)

In case you want to know what I bought:

yarn
·         Katia Infinity Shawl yarn (It’s for a Christmas gif. Shh!)
·         Mondial Cotton Soft (Jess fell in love with this baby knit sample, the Knubbelchen pattern. We have no one to make it for, but had to buy the yarn anyway.)
·         Cascade Heritage Silk (I’ve wanted to make the Three Color Cowl for a long time now, and this is the perfect yarn for it. Plus it was on clearance! Score!)
·         Berroco Summer Silk (The Easy Folded Poncho has been in my Ravely queue for forever, and the store had it knit up in this yarn… so soft and beautiful@!)
·         Berroco Vintage & Jojoland Splatter Dash (I think this will make a beautiful Western Auto Cowl.)
·         Berroco Comfort Sock (Jessica pick this black yarn for her next pair of socks.)
·         Cascade Sarasota (I have no idea why, just that it jumped into my hands.)
·         Katia Irish Tweed ( Again, no plans, just “needed” it.)
·         Odds and Ends: Scissor Reel, Stitch markers, dpn holder, lotion, soap and shawl magnet
